John Mueller: "[I]t's not the case that we would look at just purely the text...we really want to look at the website overall."

"Technical SEO is just as important as content"

In replying to a question about the relative importance of quality content vs. technical SEO during a Google SEO Office Hours discussion on Friday, Google Senior Webmaster Trends Analyst John Mueller began by saying that both quality and technical SEO are important.

And then went on to point out that when considering the quality of content, Google doesn't mean just the text, but also many factors - including images, layout, design, presentation, and page speed - which contribute to the user experience.

Mr. Mueller concluded by returning to the original question and pointing out: "Technical SEO is just as important as content, and they both have to work together."
