By
26 September 2016

Along with the most popular desktop search keywords for news, retail and banking, this article by Jonathan Marciano on SimilarWeb includes the top 10 paid search keywords for travel, with market shares of the 3 sites with largest market shares for each, and the average cost per click over the past 3 months (roughly June, July, August 2016).

Example: The travel-related keyword most used in paid search was "flight tracker". The average cost per click was $0.29 and the top 3 sites by market share of searches were:

  1. flightview.com 37.0%
  2. flightaware.com 29.2%
  3. flightstats.com 8.8%

SimilarWeb says this analysis was done using their new "Keyword Analysis" tool.

Interesting. But one thing to note:

Article contains this quote in reference to the News category: "With 22% of all desktop news traffic arriving via Organic Search, understanding these patterns is vital in generating content based on trending keywords for the industry." All keywords reported have CPC data - how is organic search relevant to this?
