2025 UXPA Boston UX Fair Scheduled for Friday 14 November

The 11th annual UXPA Boston UX Fair will be hosted from 3 PM to 9 PM EST in collaboration with the Design and Media Center of Mass College of Art & Design located at 621 Huntington Avenue Boston 02115.

"The UX Fair is an annual mentoring and career development fair for students and career changers who are interested in breaking into the fields of user experience design, research, development, information architecture, and content strategy. It is geared towards those who are new to UX or those seeking a new career in UX. The events at the UX Fair provide mentorship and guidance around UX career paths and opportunities."

UXPA 2025 Call for Proposals closes Friday

The User Experience Professionals Association (UXPA) has extended its deadline for 2025 international conference speaker proposals to 11:59 PM Pacific Time Friday this week 11 October 2024.

UXPA International Conference 2025 will be held in Amsterdam 16-19 June 2025.

UXPA seeks proposals for various conference tracks, disciplines, types of talks and audience levels:

Tracks:

1. Career Development
2. Emerging Technologies
3. Tools & Techniques
4. UX Strategy
5. UX Leadership
6. DEIA

Disciplines (optional):

• UX Design
• Visual Design
• UX Research
• Content Strategy
• Content Writing
• Design Ops

Type of talk:

• 60-minute talk
• 60-minute panel
• 3-hour course with honorarium of 500-1000 euros
• "Poster" - make a poster about what you did, and explain it to people

Audience level

• Entry level
• Mid level
• Senior level

What happens after you submit a proposal:

• 5 anonymous people will review it and comment on it.
• Chairpersons will review proposals and comments.
• Top proposals will be shortlisted.
• Full conference committee will select proposals for final program.
• Note that for every proposal you submit, you must review 3 proposals of others.
• One individual per accepted proposal will get a 300 euro discount on conference registration.

Core Web Vitals scores improving, but nearly 50% of websites still fail on at least one metric

Core Web Vitals are 3 metrics that measure the speed, interactivity and visual stability of a web page. They are a component of Google's "page experience ranking" signals and thus contribute to Google's rating of the overall user experience of your page, and ultimately to its ranking.

The June 2024 Chrome UX Report shows improved website performance on all metrics: LCP, CLS and INP, with "good" scores and improvements as follows:

• Largest Contentful Paint: 63.4% (+2.0%)
• Cumulative Layout Shift: 77.8% (+0.5%)
• Interaction to Next Paint: 84.1% (+1.1%)
• All metrics: 51.0% (+2.3%)

Here is what Google considers to be "good" CWV scores:

• Largest Contentful Paint (LCP): Measures loading performance. To provide a good user experience, strive to have LCP occur within the first 2.5 seconds of the page starting to load.
• Interaction To Next Paint (INP): Measures responsiveness. To provide a good user experience, strive to have an INP of less than 200 milliseconds.
• Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS): Measures visual stability. To provide a good user experience, strive to have a CLS score of less than 0.1.

Recent changes to how INP is measured likely contributed to improved scores on that attribute, and on CWV overall:

• Keypress entries are now assigned an interactionID.
• Under composition, interactionID is now exposed to keydown and keyup events as well as input events.
• InteractionIDs for keydown events are now generated upfront vs. on keyup.
• Added concept of alternative end point for duration management with synchronous javascript modal dialogs.
